The New weapon of "Somaliland" in Khatumo state? Gang RAPE of teenage girls, and subsequent slaughter.

Somali Refugees Rape

Since their occupation of Lascanod, the regional capital of the Khatumo State of Somalia in October 2007, Somaliland’s militia have subjected the occupied people to continuous human rights violations, crimes against humanity and war crimes. No one has ever been charged for these crimes let alone punished for it. It goes without saying that it is a practice condoned by the secessionist administration in Hargeisa who are ultimately where the buck stops. Homesick and hundreds of miles away from their homeland in the one-clan secession enclave, and forced to be in a hostile environment where they are not welcome and face armed resistance, they vent their alienation on the defenceless nomadic population. Rape, culturally the most dreadful thing they could vengefully inflict on a proud people steeped in the Darwiish resistance heritage, is the militia’s most feared disposition.

The occupied Khatumo people in the Sool, Sanaag and Cayn (SSC) regions may have become somewhat inured in the past to heinous crimes committed by Somaliland’s militia, ranging from using their armoured vehicles to run over fleeing nomads, to slaughtering in their prisons captured defenders of the Buuhoodle/Cayn region of Khatumo State. But even by the past standards, nothing would be as shocking and dastardly as the gang-rap in broad daylight of a 13 year old shepherd girl, Halimo Hussein Warsame, on 24 December 2012 at Lafawayn, close to the town of Hudun in Sool region. She was victim to a group of Somaliland militia who, after monstrously raping her, cut her throat and killed her. Though girl shepherds and women in general had been warned to beware marauding Somaliland militia n the area, unsuspecting Halimo had paid the ultimate price for exercising her God-given right to gaze her goats in her own territory.

Somaliland Today, a website hailing from Somaliland, reported on 29 December that one of their soldiers suspected of committing this crime is now at the militia’s camp. Though the incident is not acknowledged officially, true to the past, the fact that it is reported in their media is unusual and authenticates the veracity of the case. Time will tell whether the alleged suspect is simply in confinement at the camp for his own protection as often is the case, or whether for the first time this will be a prelude to charging him and his accomplices for the crimes they committed.

Little Halimo’s rape and murder has happened at the same as that of an Indian woman, also gang-raped in New Delhi on 19 December and who subsequently died of the injuries she sustained during her ordeal. Her case has shocked not only the Indian public and government but the international community. Even the UN Secretary- General, Ban Ki-moon felt obliged to weigh in and to issue the following statement:

Violence against women must never be accepted, never excused, never tolerated,” and that every girl and woman has the right to be respected, valued and protected.”

The Secretary- General’s commendable reaction applies equally to Halimo’s case, both victims of unsolicited aggression. Is it too much to expect from the Secretary-General’s representative for Somalia, Mr. Augustine Mahiga- unashamedly Somaliland’s advocate than an upholder of his mandate – to follow the example of his boss and take a similar clear-cut stand not only against Halimo’s aggressors but also against the root cause of the problem which is Somaliland’s criminal occupation of parts of Khatumo. It also behoves President Mohamoud Sheikh Hassan to speak up notwithstanding his soft spot for the enclave.

In the meantime, even if the suspect(s) are charged, convicted and given the punishment they deserve (which is unlikely), Khatumo’s young girls, like Halimo, and her fellow Khatumo womenfolk will continue to be easy targets of rape and sexual abuse and harassment from Somaliland’s militia just as the overall Khatumo people will remain victims of human rights abuses and crimes against humanity as long as Somaliland’s occupation of Khatumo’s territory persists. Nothing less than their total, immediate and unconditional withdrawal can ensure the end of the suffering of our people. Towards this end, Halimo’s unspeakable rape and murder will if anything galvanise the struggle for freedom from the occupiers. More than any other person who perished under Somaliland’s occupation, her name will henceforth and for ever remain a symbol of the price the SSC paid under this occupation and the struggle for their freedom. She will not have died in vain. Her innocent tender age and her unjust murder ensure her God’s mercy and reward in heaven.

Maxaa u haray?

Xaliimo Xusseen Warsame maalintay dhalatay waxaa ku farxay hooyadeed, aabaheed iyo qoyskeeda dhamaantii.  Maalintay Xalimo hana qaaday waxay baratay raaskay ka dhalatay, qabiilka ay ka dhalatay, iyo abtirsiimadeeda guud. Waxay ku qanacsanayd dhalashadeeda qoys iyo teeda qabiilba. Waxay ku riyoonaysay
mar haddii qoyskeedu awoodi waayay in iskuul u diro, oo ka badbaadiyo nolosha reer miyinimo taa macnaheedu inaysan ahayn inay ku waarayso nolosha xoolo raacnimo, noloshanina ahayn mid u qoran iyada inta nolosha ka hartay. Qoyskeedu reer miyi ha ahaado laakiin gayaankeed oo ilmaadeeradeed dhow iyo kuwo fogba in ay jiraan. In haybadeeda, quruxdeeda, iyo caqligeeda buuxa ee aan la gaarsiin meeshuu gaari lahaaba ay maalin maalmaha ka mid ah ay ku hanan doonto inaadeerkeed isagu helay fursadan ayna iyadu helin.

Xaliimo waxay markaa ay xoogga saartay inay ka haqab tirto qoyskeeda maanta waxa keliya ee ah awoodeeda. Awoodaas oo ah inay noqoto ciidan hooyo iyo aababa kaga seexdaan ariga ay raacdo. Waxay dhexda kaga jirtay oo ku dhex noolayd abtirsiimadeedu  meeshay gashay. Wiil yar oo da'deeda ah, oo inaadeerkeed oo la kaftama aragtay, weligeedse caqliga ma gelin shisheeye arxan daran, xishood daran kana awood badani inuu ka soo duulayo dhul aanay ab iyo isir toona u lahayn.

Maalintii nolosheeda ugu dambaysay, sidii caadada u ahayd arigii ayay subaxii la dhaqaaqday. Hooyadeed, aabaheed iyo walaalaheedii ka yaraaba may sii dayin. Sababtoo ah waa arin ay samyn jirtay 3dii sanno ee nolosheeda ugu dambeeyay. Marnaba uurkeeda may gelin in maanta tahay maalintii nolosheeda ugu dambaysay. Marnaba ma gelin in jirkeeda curdanka ah  lagula kaco wax dhaqnkeedu uusan baran. Marnaba kuma fekrin in murugo iyo saxariir gabalku ugu dhacayo qoyskii reer Xuseen Warsame. May niyaysan uurkutaalada hooyadeed. Argagaxa iyo dhakafaarka aabaheed
markuu arko gabadhiisii saaka iyadoo qoslaysa ka soo tagtay hadana maydkeedii, iyadoo loo dilay si uusan weligii maqlin jirkeedii curdanka ahaana loogu gefay ka hor intaan nolosha laga siibin. Waxaa aabeheed hor yimid, qayladii gabadhiisa uu jeclaa. Waxaa u sawirantay rag doolaalo ugu yimid oo gurigay ilaa maalintay dhalatay ku noolayd inta ugu yimaadeen ugu xad gudbay wax aan degaanka weli laga maqlin. Waxaa u sawirantay musiibadan ku habsatay gabadhiisii uu jeclaa. Meydkeedii oo uu aas u wado. Murugadii reer Xuseen u soo hoyatay waa mid uusan sheeko iyo shaahid toona ku maqal.

Murugadii Xuseen waxay aaskii gabadhiisa ka dib isu bedeshay ciil. Su'aalaha uu iswaydiinayo ayaa ah, Xaliimo sidee loo xaal marin karaa? Yaa xaal marinaya? Yaa xaqeedii soo dhicinaya? Yaa ka masauul ah gabadhii sebiga ah ee gurigay ku kortay inta loogu yimid sida waxshinimada ah loogu xad gudbay ka bacdina nafteedii sida araxan darada ah loo qaaday? Aakhiro ka sokow, yaa ifka xaqeedii raadinaya? Yaa u garab ah Xaliimo? Wuxuu garowsaday in cadowga SNM ee gabadhiisii
sebiga ahayd sidan ula dhaqmay ay u adeegaan rag ay garab ka sugaysay Xaliimo. Wuxuu aqoonsaday in Xaliimo aarkeeda aan looga fadhiyin nin tuugnimo ku dhashay ilaa iyo imikana ku shaqaysta oo SNM calooshiisa ugu adeega. Wuxuu Xuseen go'aansaday in SNMtii Xaliimo sida waxshinimada ah ugu xad gudbay inay u taliyaan kan Xaliimo garabka moodaysay uuna u shaqeeyo kuwii Xaliimo nolosheedii curadanka ahayd ku xad gudbay.

Xuseen wuxuu galoo garowsaday in kuwo meel ay ka yimaadeen aan la aqoon oo ku soo caan baxay xiligii qaran jabka qoyska Xaliimo ka soo jeedo kuna naalooda waxyeelada qoyska iyo reerka ay ku abtirsadaan aan looga fadhiyin inay Xaliimo xaqeedii raadiyaan.

Xuseen wuxuu go'aansaday in SNM iyo inta u shaqaysaa ay Xaliimo wixii gaadhay ka masuul yihiin. Wuxuu ciilkii Xuseen ku soo ururay; garanay wixii Xaliimo xaqeedii duudsiyay, ee yaa u maqan Xaliimo? Dadkay ka dhalatay ma ilaawi doonaan? Ma maqalnay oo ilownay baa Xaliimo ku dambayn toontaa? Mise tol dadnimo leh ayaa Xaliimo ka dambeeya? Ma inta Xaliimo jidhkeedii lagu xad gudbay la daawado, cidii ka dambaysay la aqoonsado, ayaa hadana ficil daro loogu darayaa? Xaliimo nolosheedii curdannimo ayaa lagu dhameeyay oo lama siin fursad ay ku noqoto qof ummadda waxay u qaban karto ka fekerta. Su'aasha reer Xuseen is weydiinayaan waxaa weeye, cadow ka xoog badan baa gurigoodi ugu yimid kuna xad gudbay oo qaatay waxay nolosha ugu jeclaayeen- gabadhoodii sebiga ahayd. Yaay reer Xuseen u hiil ah?

Jawaabtaas ayaa la sugayaa. Xaliimo inay laba goor dhimato iyo in dhimashadeedii iyo xad gudibkii iyada asiibay inuu badbaadiyo boqolaal Xaliimo oo maanta dhashay ama beri dhalan doona. Taas weeye ta reer Xuseen sugayaan. Ma Xaliimo ayaa ugu horaysay uguna dambayn toonta mise Xaliimo waa hordhac? Maxay sugaan reer Khaatumo? Maxaa u haray?

Khatumo State of Somalia: forced to relive the Darwish Struggle By Ali H Abdulla

Title: Sayid Mohamed - Description: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/61/Sayyid_Mohammed_Abdullah_Hassan.jpeg/220px-Sayyid_Mohammed_Abdullah_Hassan.jpeg
Sayed Mohamed

The Darwish State of Somalia

In 1899, a charismatic man with exceptional leadership qualities and oratory skills convinced a strong Somali clan to join him in his struggle against the occupation of Somalia by foreign powers:   Great Britain, Italy and France. According to a British officer, the Somali clan, before joining the Sayed in his struggle for freedom, could muster  more than 80,000 horsemen at a time in times of war. In Mad Mullah, the colonial officer Jardine described the clan as one that possessed more than its fair share of the legendary Somali pride and conceit. The clan that inhabited the Nugal Valley and extended into the Hawd and reserved area, Somali territories that were later ceded illegally by Britain to Ethiopia, formed the bulk of the Darwish movement that transformed a nomadic clan into the inhabitants of a functioning state with its capital in Taleh where the Sayid built his famous fort. The State had its own legislative, judicial and Executive branches. The Sayid and a few trusted individuals formed the Executive Branch, highly educated religious scholars formed the judicial branch while the Khususi, or the inner circle, formed the legislative branch. The army had its own hierarchy and command structure and functioned like a modern military. The Sayid had informal diplomatic relations with countries like Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The Turks even sent him experts who helped him build a sprawling compound in Taleh which was known to Somalis as “Xarunta” or the HQ. A German engineer sent by the Turks helped him maintain his weapons.
After 21 years of a costly struggle in terms of life and resources, the Darwish movement was finally crushed with the help of superior air power that destroyed most of the buildings in Darwish strongholds like Medeshi and Taleh, and massacred thousands of men, women and children. The British infantry later destroyed the fort in Taleh with explosives, but it stubbornly defied total destruction and many sections still stand today as reminders of a proud Somali heritage that defied colonization by foreign powers. Despite its many detractors who mostly collaborated with the British in its colonization of Somalia, the Darwish Movement is the longest of its kind in many parts of Africa. The Sayid escaped the bombardment and tried to resurrect the movement but died of natural causes after refusing to consider British offers of peace and collaboration. He even derided the delegation sent to him by the British and they barely escaped with their lives for being emissaries of a colonizing power that killed thousands of their fellow countrymen.

Teleh Fort
Even after defeat, the Darwish survivors refused to sign any agreements with the British unlike the other Somali clans in the area that willingly signed protection treaties with the British Raj when its first ships landed on the Somali shores. These surviving warriors remained loyal to their cause and commander in chief until their death. In the early 1970s, as a school boy, when I visited our nomadic hamlets in the summer holidays, I remember seeing a number of these surviving Darawish who were ready to fight against anyone who bad mouthed the Sayid and his movement in any manner. The aging Darawish were always ready to defend their legacy with the paraphernalia of weapons they still had access to such as daggers worn around their waists, despite their frailness and aging bodies. Some of them still bore the scars of the numerous battles they witnessed in their youth when they rode sturdy stallions and mares for hundreds of miles with no food or water. Some of them were among the lucky few who traveled from Taleh to Berbera on horseback to surprise the British in their seat of power. The thundering sound of their horses must have brought fear to the hearts of those who collaborated with the British by getting the impression that the earth must have been sinking under their feet. The unwavering loyalty  of the surviving Darawish is testimony to the high esteem they held their commander of chief in who refused to the last minute to betray their cause and make peace with the enemy.

After independence in 1960, a mobile unit in the Somali police adopted the name of the Darawish and used uniforms reminiscent of the fierce Darwish warriors and their white turbans and matching flowing robes.  The famous Somali poet Qassim sent the Sayid a moving tribute and message to inform him in his grave that the struggle that the he, the Sayid , started finally bore fruit and that his people kicked out the colonialists from their country. The Darwish movement was later honored by the revolutionary government of Siyad Barre by erecting a magnificent monument that commemorated its struggle for freedom and Somali honor. A surviving Darwish used to guard the monument until he resigned in disgust when a crow perched itself on the turban of the Sayid as if that was a bad omen that somehow foretold the ignominious fate of the monument when it was dismantled and desecrated at the hands of angry mobs motivated by clan hatred after the collapse of the Somali Government. As a matter of fact, the statue of the Sayid itself was toppled and cut to pieces only to be sold as scrap in Dubai for a few thousand dollars. Let us hope that the current Somali government will restore the monument to its former glory. Only then will Mogadishu truly be a Somali capital for all Somalis since the preservation of Somali history is a shared responsibility.

Upholding the Darwish Principles

The descendants of the Darwish warriors are now faced with a big challenge. They are expected to singlehandedly defend Somali Unity as if such unity does not concern other Somalis. The one clan SNM rebel movement that collaborated with other clan-based rebel movements to destroy Somalia, has embarked on a genocidal campaign to ethnically cleanse them from their ancestral lands. They, the Darawish descendants, have been given an ultimatum to either join the SNM in their quest for seceding from Somalia or face forced eviction from their territories. Such inhumane threats have been unequivocally voiced by prominent SNM politicians like the chairman of the Justice and Welfare Party in Somaliland, a prominent Islamic Scholar known as Sheikh Siro and a member of the Upper House of Parliament called Abdi Warabe. The SNM considers all Somali territories that were once a colony of Great Britain as being part of Somaliland and should therefore join the secession bandwagon by force.  While it is immoral and wrong to break up Somalia into cantons, it is more serious to force others to join in a wrong cause and threaten them with deadly force and eviction. What else is open for  people faced with such a life threatening situation except taking up arms and fighting to the last man and woman?

Khatumo Sate of Somalia

After 20 years of anarchy and the absence of a strong central government, the descendants of the Darawish have finally decided to form their own administration. On 12 January 2012, they assembled from all over the world in the Darwish stronghold of Taleh. The conference was held under an ancient tree  dubbed as “Birdaha Khaatumo”. The tree must have been a witness to the hundreds of Darwish expeditions that embarked on missions to fight the British Colonialists such as the one in which Ismail Mire, the Dariwsh Commander, defeated the British colonial officer Richard Corfield. The participants were owed by the magnificence of the albeit destroyed fort and the hospitality of the Taleh residents who shared their meager resources with them and opened their homes for them. Despite the remoteness of the area and the lack of paved roads, they all felt energized by a mysterious force once they made it safely to Taleh. They were welcomed with fine  horses that raced with the 4 wheel drive vehicles that welcomed every delegation. One could easily visualize the thousands of horses and white turbaned Darawish roaming the area in the heydays of Taleh.

After lengthy deliberations and consultations, the Darwish descendants from all walks of life joined their 12 traditional leader to announce to the world the formation of a new  Federal State known as the Federal State of Khaatumo. The State seeks to uphold Somali Unity and to develop Khatumo territories peacefully. These territories have been ignored by all development agencies after he Somaliland and Puntland administrations managed to portray them as disputed no-go areas inhabited by wild and inhospitable clans. This inhuman behavior could have been motivated by the perception of the leaders of both administrations that the Khatumo residents supported the Somali government when they took up arms against it.

Somaliland Aggression

Just after the formation of the Khatumo State, Somaliland forces attacked and entered the city of Buhodleh to prevent the group that was instrumental in forming Khatumo from crossing the border with Ethiopia, the only outlet for them to return to their homes after Somaliland and Puntland threatened them with imprisonment if they tried to travel from their airports. But the people of Buhodle defended their city with valor and managed to evict the secessionist forces. Battles raged for weeks and many innocent lives were lost.
http://www.realtaleex.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/DSC03279-300x225.jpg
After being defeated in Buhodle, the Somaliland Administration, in its futile attempts to portray Somaliland as a democratic bastion, redeployed its forces to another area known as Hudun in order to force its residents there to vote in the recent rigged elections. However, the residents of Hudun defended their city against the invaders and rejected the entrance of any ballot boxes into their city. These blank ballots were later forged and tallied despite the declaration of the International observers that Hudun did not participate in the election when hostilities broke out in the area.

Unfortunately more Somali blood was shed in Hudun and another round of fighting is expected soon since the secessionist forces are still in the area and are looking for more trouble despite being asked to leave in peace.

Khatumo Commitment and Resolve

December 4 will be a day etched in the memory of the people of Khatumo. On that day, the first aircraft touched down at Sayid Mohamed Abdulla Hassan airport in Taleh. The airport was built with the help of  the Khatumo diaspora to serve as an outlet for the landlocked State. The aircraft carried the Khatumo delegation from Mogadishu after successfully participating in the ratification of the draft constitution and the election of the new Somali parliament that elected Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud as the president of Somalia.  A few days ago, the elected president for all Somalis hastily congratulated Somaliland on a successful election at a time when Somali blood was being shed in Hudun by forces that have resolved to dismantle the very country that he presides over. Khatumo and the Somali people expect an apology and an explanation for such a hasty decision.
http://allssc.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/untitledDDD-300x156.jpg
The people of Khatumo will continue in their struggle despite being abandoned by the other Somalis. They have sworn through their traditional leaders to take up arms against the Somaliland secessionist forces until they evict them from their territories which they continue to occupy by force. Since the Somaliland administration continues to imprison journalists, ordinary citizens, students and anyone who dares challenge their Illegal presence in Khatumo territories, the Khatumo resistance is a morally justified one that is based on the basic human rights of its people.
If you are a true Somali patriot who cares about Somali Unity and future, join us in this just cause. Khatumo is not an aggressor and has a legitimate right to stand  up to arrogance and aggression. Somalis in the Diaspora are also invited to charter special direct flights to  Taleh and witness firsthand the history that has so far being hidden from them for years. Somali children can wander among the Taleh Fort ruins which are expected to be rebuilt to their former glory soon. The children can ride horses that are the progeny of famous breeds like Xiin Finiin, Tuurre and Walhad.
http://www.realtaleex.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/DSC03295-300x225.jpg
Such trips will demonstrate your support for Somali Unity and help Khatumo in its struggle against a determined enemy of that Unity. It will also help the Khatumo residents defeat the invisible Berlin Wall that has been erected around them by both Puntland and Somaliland.
Finally, Many thanks to sister Roda Afjanno for her beautiful poem that has motivated all Khatumites in their struggle. I would also like to thank the pilot who transported the Khatumo delegation from Mogadishu to Taleh safely and opened the door for many future flights that will hopefully carry members of the Somalia Parliament, the Somali cabinet and the International Community to witness firsthand the efforts of the Khatumo State to develop its territories peacefully.

MAHIGA - THE CAMELEON

Mahiga, Somalia, Somaliland and the clashes in Khatumo By, Osman Hassan.

Like a wild predator chased away from one place and trying its luck elsewhere, the renegade one- clan secessionist enclave calling itself Somaliland never seems to give up its predatory designs on the Khatumo State of Somalia. Ignominiously defeated in its colonial-like quest to wrest the Cayn region from its indigenous owners, it is once again on the warpath in the Sool region deluding itself that it can succeed this time where it had failed in the Buuhoodle/Cayn region. Under the guise of holding elections but in reality aiming to conquer and occupy more land, Somaliland launched on 28 of November 2012 a surprise attack on the town of Hudun. History repeats itself and. the very same arrogance, overconfidence and misreading of the situation in Kalshaale that triggered in 2010 their final rout in the Cayn region, is now playing itself out once again in the Hudun/Sool region.

For the people of Sool, already reeling under Somaliland’s barbaric occupation of their regional capital, Lascanod, their unprovoked attack on Hudun, just like that of Kalshaale before it, was the last straw that broke the camels back. Far from conquering them, Somaliland’s actions on the contrary have served as the spark that suddenly galvanised the resistance to this expansionist chauvinist occupier. The liberation of the towns of Hudun, Lascanod and other areas of Sool region has started, and the countdown to Somaliland’s dastardly occupation of the sacred Darwiish land have began.

Clearly Somaliland far from learning its lesson from Kalshaale has been emboldened by recent developments in Somalia and outside which it wrongly perceives as propitiations for its cause. First and foremost is the election of a new impressionable president for Somalia who now empathizes with their secession, having got elected thanks to their parliamentary clan votes. His appointment of a sworn secessionist from the enclave as Somalia’s foreign minister was his first down payment for their favours. All his subsequent actions have reinforced that trend.

A sabre-rattling president, in the case of Kismayo, ready to go to battle in the name of defending Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity from its recalcitrant but otherwise unionist locals, has been conspicuously silent about the secessionists’ flagrant attack on Khatumo State aimed at dismembering Somalia. The same goes for parliament and a Prime Minister whose so-called government only exists in name. From Somaliland’s perspective, this collective silence unmistakably amounts to consent to its colonisation adventures in the SSC regions (Sool, Sanaag and Cayn) and implicitly if not explicitly signifies approval of its secession.

The second factor that gave a fillip to their hitherto dwindling fortunes was the timely support (and not for the first time) from Ambassador Augustine Mahiga, the Special Representative for the Secretary-General of the United Nations (SGRG). Always flip-flopping unashamedly on any issue, he has a knack of ingratiating himself with his Somali audiences, telling them exactly what they like to hear as if they were kids, and from the look of it they tend to be taken for a ride like children. Like a chameleon, he changes his colours according to his surroundings and audiences. Thus when in Mogadishu or Nairobi, he will affirm Somalia’s unity to endear himself with unionists, officiously reminding them the resolute stance of the UN Security Council on Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity. But once he is in Hargeisa, he puts on a different colour, explicitly supporting the secession. His motto must be that if he pleases both sides in turn, he can never go wrong and this seems to be the case.

Ambassador Mahiga was at it again when he went the other day on an official visit to the enclave in order to smooth the ruffled feathers of their leader, who felt enraged when the SRSG in a letter to him referred to him as the “ president of Somaliland State of Somalia”. This is the worst sleight any outsider could commit in their eyes. Meekly pleading innocence, and blaming others for the letter that upset Siilaanyo’s presidential ego, he assured him that “such mistakes shall not occur in the future”. But when he added that he “recognises the aspiration of the People of Somaliland for self-determination “, this was music to the ears of the “president” and his enclave and Mahiga once again got himself into the good book of Somaliland. His actions may please his audiences in Somaliland but in practical terms they mean very little, for ultimately it is the stance of the international community that counts -which is crystal clear on where they stand – and not the shenanigans of an errant SRSG.
Since the SRSG recognises that Somaliland is a separate State and not a State of Somalia, with Siilaanyo as its president, he has flagrantly flouted the stand of his masters, the Security Council, and also the terms of his office. As such, it is incumbent upon the Secretary-General to replace him and salvage the tattered credibility of his office and the United Nations.
In the case of Somalia, one would have expected any Somali government worth its name to have declared the SRSG persona non grata. But the fact that there is not a word of protest or action forthcoming from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud and his sham government, speaks volumes about his ambivalence towards Somalia’s unity, and if anything is symptomatic of his cosy relations if not collusion with the secessionists, possibly in the name of mythical clan solidarity.
Both the support of Mahiga and the president of Somalia to the secessionists will undoubtedly encourage them in digging their secession heels and ratchet up their aggression against defiant Khatumo. A clan that opts to secede is bad enough. But one that wants also to colonise and force others to come under its tutelage is unacceptable. Though they will never succeed in their vain goals to either hold on to any part of Khatumo, or gain recognition, it is the unnecessary suffering they would be inflicting on civilians, and the threat they pose to the achievement of durable peace and stability in these regions that is bound to be of particular concern to the international community, now determined more than ever to work for a united democratic Somalia.
For too long, the secessionists have been indulged by some western countries who bear some of the responsibility for the durability of the secession and the damage its causing to their victims in Khatumo, wider Somalia and the region. The aims and objectives that the international community had set itself in Somalia would not be achieved unless they use their considerable leverage over the secessionists, including the threat of economic sanctions. Great Britain, for obvious historical reasons, and the USA among others, have special responsibilities to prevail over the secessionists to stop their aggression in the Khatumo State. Above all, and for the sake of Somalia and the region, they should dispel any lingering false hopes the secessionists still entertain regarding possible recognition from western countries.

Maantana ma Xudun baa?

 Somaliland’s current aggression
in Hudun is likely to escalate
into Kalshale II
By Ali H Abdulla

Nov. 14, 2012

“All we have in Somaliland is Tribalism and Kat” :
Faysal Ali Warabe – Chairman of the Justice and Welfare Party in Somaliland
“This year, it is apparent that Somali Women have worked hard and as a result achieved a lot of progress. The appointment of Fosiya Haji Adan as a Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Somalia is the result of such dedication and hard work.” :
Haji Abdi Warabe (No direct relation to the previous Warabe) –
The oldest surviving member in the Somaliland House of Elders
Northern Somalia
It seems that the Somaliland House of Cards is finally tumbling down slowly but surely, and that the misguided ambition of a separate state that is based purely on clannish sentiment is finally giving way to reality and pragmatism. A large number of Somaliland politicians who held respectable positions in the Somaliland Administration are flocking daily to Mogadishu in search of better and more sustainable future. Many seem to be running away from the reality correctly described by the outspoken Mr. Faysal Warabe, one of the most outspoken secessionists in the clan-based enclave. He once called for the ethnic cleansing of the clans that are opposed to the secession of Somaliland from the rest of Somalia. His words above portends the unraveling of the Somaliland project. No wonder that the attempts of mercenary lobbyists  like Peter Pham and Iqbal Jhazbhay to secure world recognition for Somaliland have fizzled out and their futile attempts have failed to bear any fruit despite receiving millions of dollars diverted from much needed development projects in Somaliland. Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland,  suffers from chronic water shortages while millions were awarded to foreign lobbyists who failed to do their homework, before embarking on such a wild goose chase. They and others like them ignored the fact that the word Somaliland stands for the land of the Somali people who are scattered all over the horn of Africa.

While it is a big relief for Somali Unionists to witness a welcome change in Somaliland, the phenomenon of shifting  alliances like sand  dunes has given rise to a new breed of self-serving politicians who are ready to sell their souls for the sake of a political post. Even the new Minister of Foreign Affairs in the new Somali cabinet, Fosiya Haji Adan, switched sides after her party in Somaliland failed to garner the level of support deemed necessary to compete in the upcoming elections in Somaliland.. Can the Somali people trust such a person who is capable of changing her loyalty as easily as changing her wardrobe? I just hope that the President and Prime Minister know what they are doing. Yabarag has addressed this issue very well in a recent article.
The recent defection of Suleiman Issa Karr, the chairman of the Council for the Salvation and Unification of the Unionist SSC regions in North Central Somalia, to the secessionist camp is testimony to such a new trend. Just before the treacherous defection of Mr. Karr in return for a measly $100,000, delivered to him by Silanyo’s whip Hirsi the Dagger in Djibouti, and a second grade Ministry stolen from our brothers in Awdal, Mr. Karr told an audience in the United Arab Emirates that he will never contemplate selling his soul to Silanyo’s Somaliland or  Farole’s Puntland , the two Administrations that colluded to marginalize the regions that chose him to lead them in their struggle for defending Somali Unity and developing their territories peacefully. Both administrations prevented international organizations from venturing into these regions which were unfairly labeled as disputed territories. Even the popular Somali writer Muktar M. Omer, inadvertently used a map labeling these regions as disputed territories in his latest article posted in WardheerNews
In addressing the unionist audience in Abu Dhabi, Mr. Karr reiterated his commitment to a United Somalia by using the famous words of Ismail Mire, the Darwish commander who defeated and killed Richard Corfield in the battle of Dul Madoba in 1913, and who even with the collapse of the Dariwsh struggle  in 1920 as a result of merciless  British aerial bombardment that massacred thousands in cold blood, refused to acknowledge the rule of the British colonialists.  When asked to address the British Governor as Sir,  Ismail is said to have answered  “Afkaan Sayid ku idhi. Sir ku odhan maayo”. Roughly translated it means that the same lips that used to address the Darwish Commander in chief, Mohamed Abdulla Hassan, as Sayid cannot address a colonialist as Sir. Now, those were the days that honor, chivalry, courage and a man’s word were valued and meant a lot. Even the British admired and respected men like Ismail and the Sayid and derided traitors like Ina Igarre who collaborated with them against their own people. Jardine alludes to this fact in the closing remarks of his book “the Mad Mullah of Somaliland”
When Mr. Karr defected, he was given a red carpet treatment in Burao and Hargeisa, and his demands for the theatrical and deceitful partial withdrawal of the Somaliland militias from Kalshale, an area that witnessed recurring battles between the Somaliland militia and the Khatumo Unionists, was met. This meaningless and temporary withdrawal gave the impression that Silanyo and his secessionist enclave were serious about peace and that Karr was their partner for peaceful co-existence in the area. It was all staged to promote Karr as a man who freed the Khatumo prisoners and negotiated the withdrawal of the Somaliland militia from Kalshale. Osman Hassan has an excellent article on WardheerNews that appropriately describes Karr as a Khatumo dropout.
Silanyo with Karr in the UAE
But Silanyo is not serious about peace and he has embarked on a new adventure that heralds a replay of the Kalshale conflict but this time in a different area. The town of Hudun lies around 160 kilometers to the north east of Kalshale and falls within the jurisdiction of the Khatumo State of Somalia, a unionist state that is opposed to the dismemberment of the Somali State. A few days ago, the residents of the town woke up to unwelcome guests armed with more than 40 Technicals, four-wheel drive vehicles fitted with anti-aircraft weapons. These militia relocated from Kalshale and blocked all the exits from Hudun which is surrounded by a range of  mountains.
The reason behind this new and flagrant aggression  is not fully known or understood as yet, but it can ignite a destructive war that can go out of hand and engulf the whole area. So far, a large number of young men have assembled from all the surrounding areas to defend their territories against the invading secessionist militias. Kalshale II, in which scores of young men may lose their lives like in Kalshale I , is in the making since the Khatumo forces will not tolerate the presence of secessionist militia in their midst. While Las Anod was relinquished to Somaliland by Puntland without any credible resistance, the matter is entirely different when it comes to areas upon which the livelihood and survival of Khatumo nomads depend such as Hudun and Kalshale.
Fuad Aden Adde
Fuad Aden Adde
Some attribute the new aggression to Silanyo’s attempts to stir clan passion in his secessionist enclave in order to stem the constant and steady outflow of many Somaliland politicians and their families  from Hargeisa to Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia where security has improved considerably and business opportunities are opening up. Others attribute it to the upcoming elections in Somaliland and the attempts of Silanyo’s party to inflate and maximize its seats in territories that cannot be monitored easily. This attempt is spearheaded by self-serving politicians like Mr. Karr above and others who are native to the area. Among these politicians is Fuad Adan Adde another self-serving politician who claims Hudun as his home. Fuad pretends to be an important Somaliland figure in Hargeisa  but failed to secure any meaningful posts in Somaliland after being sacked by Dahir Rayale, the former president of the secessionist enclave. He may be trying to prove himself this time to Silanyo by participating in the invasion of his place of birth where many of his relatives were killed in cold blood during the destructive civil war that toppled the Somali government. There are also strong indications that Silanyo and his Minister of Mineral Resource signed deals with small  British and South African companies to prospect for oil in Holhol, an area close to Hudun. The Holhol area has  considerable oil reserves which Conoco proved before the collapse of the Somali government.. It is part of the Nugaal Valley block.

Whatever the reasons for this aggression, it is incumbent upon the new Federal Government to at least express its displeasure and call for the withdrawal of these militia before the eruption of hostilities that can claim the lives of scores innocent young Somalis on both sides of the conflict. Since the TFG, under Sheikh Sharif, already recognized Khatumo as one of the Federal States of Somalia, its  residents expect nothing less than the full protection of the new Federal Government of Somalia. Hudun deserves the same attention that Kismayo is getting from the President and his new government.

Somali Independence Day in MN

Laas Caanood more than Kismayo deserves the President's attention By Osman Hassan Oct. 29, 2012

Las Anod
Since their invasions of the regions of Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn, (now the Khatumo State of Somalia) in October 2007 and their occupation of Laas caanood, the capital of the SSC regions, oppression of the people and suppression of the media had been Somaliland's main weapons of terror and clan colonisation: weapons aimed at cowing the defenceless population to submission and suppressing any news coverage of their actions. In the face of a defiant population, determined to resist the one clan colonisation, occupation and secession, the occupiers had resorted to heinous crimes including targeted assassinations, indiscriminate detentions and imprisonments, land grabbing, ethnic-cleansing and outright massacres of nomads and captured prisoners at the clashes in Kalshaale and Sool Joogto in the Buuhoodle region. Not even school children have been spared, who, when they exercise their inalienable God-given right to oppose the secession and defend the union, are bundled into prisons or taken away to notorious detention centres in the secessionist enclave. This measure is used both as a deterrent to discourage other children from engaging in anti occupation activities and as a moral blackmail against all parents and the wider public not to oppose the occupation and their secession.
In their self-defeating campaign to impose news blackouts on the opposition to the secession in the SSC regions ever reaching the outside world, the authority in Hargeisa has made well-nigh impossible the work of local journalists and stringers reporting for Somali satellite TV stations in the UK and other media. When all other restrictive punitive actions have failed to dissuade the journalists from performing their duties, the Somaliland authority has once again taken a leaf out of al-Shabab's book. Just as the Jihadists forcefully impose their fanatical ideology on an unwilling population, so are the secessionists forcing their treacherous senseless secession on all the other four recalcitrant unionist clans in northern Somalia.
And just as al-Shababab assassinates journalists to thwart negative reporting on its activities, so has Somaliland now followed suit. The first victim of this strategy is 25-year-old Ahmed Farah Sakin, a reporter for the Somali London-based Universal TV station. His murder is meant to to serve as a lesson for others. Three assailants, reportedly wearing government military uniforms, shot him as he was returning to his home. His crime in the eyes of Somaliland was to report on widespread demonstrations in Lascanod and other places in the SSC regions in support of the appointment of the new Prime Minister and jubilation at the recent positive developments taking place in Mogadishu. Such  instantaneous public actions, displaying support for Somalia and conversely opposition to the secession, is nationally commendable but for Somaliland it is an anathema, a punishable treason to their  secession, itself a high treason of the union!
Following this abominable murder of the journalist, anonymous threatening messages were sent to other reporters warning them that similar fate awaits them if they remain anywhere within Somaliland's reach in its occupied parts of the SSC regions. Not surprisingly, and as they envisaged, all remaining journalists have run for their lives and left the region. The international community has hitherto paid little attention to Somaliland's violations of human rights and the crimes against humanity it consistently committed in the SSC regions. Most culpable is the United Nations' International Expert on the Human Right's Situation in Somalia for his dereliction of his duties to monitor and report on these human rights abuses. Whereas international human rights NGOs, such as Human Rights Watch, admirably cover Somaliland's human rights violations in the SSC regions, the International Expert by contrast has been doing nothing more than cosying up to Somaliland, Puntland and the defunct TFG as if personal PR was a substitute for human rights defence.
It is therefore to the credit of the British Ambassador to Somalia, His Excellency Ambassador Matt Bough, wielding the historical weight of his government as the former colonial power in the area, and whose government has in the past been much maligned for mollycoddling the secessionists, that he should so quickly and unequivocally intervene to condemn this dastardly targeted assassination of the journalist and to demand from the occupying Somaliland authority to bring the perpetrators to justice.
UN SRSG, ambassador Augustine Mahiga, always eager to show he is in charge of Somalia, has also joined the chorus of condemnations of this vile act. That, however, would not atone for his previous blatant support for the secession (at one time when overwhelmed by their hospitality in Hargeisa, he took leave of diplomatic prudence by singing the praise of the secession and publicly calling for their recognition!), or the number of times when he rode roughshod over the rights of the SSC regions. One such occasion was during the selection of Parliamentarians when he shamelessly colluded with Faroole of Puntland in depriving Khatumo State of Somalia the selection of all its allotted MPs. Now that he is true to his mandate for a change, it is gratifying to see him bow to the new wind of change blowing in Somalia.

The people of Khatumo had made sacrifices in the past to oppose foreign colonisers and again defended the union unaided against the secessionists in the absence of a functioning Somali government. Now that Somalia has a government, the job of defending the country and its unity is primarily that of its government. It is time therefore for President Hassan to get his priorities right. Lascanod matters more than Kismayo which seems to lately consume most of his attention. Kismayo and the Jubaland regions after all will always remain part of Somalia. And left to themselves by outsiders, (above all Kenya), the locals are able to come to a harmonious inclusive win-win consensual arrangement for running their region in conformity with the provisional constitution. Lascanod unlike Kismayo is the linchpin holding together the union of former Italian Somaliland and British Somaliland. His choice between Kismayo and Lascanod will be a testament of whether he favours: local issues or the more existential national determining Somalia's unity. The  priority of the Somali people, other than the secessionists, is quite clear: it is unity, pure and simple. As their elected president, he should follow their wish and hence provide leadership and moral and material support for the liberation of Lascanod from its occupying renegades.

SNMland suppresses businesses in lasanod while exporting secessionism through thugs, guns and drugs.

Before you start reading this article, it is worth noting that one of Somaliland favourite poster boys have just been promoted to the newly concocted Ministry of Rehabilitation’s top post. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Somaliland’s Minister of Rehab. Mr. Xagla-Tosiye. More on this later! But before we delve into the business of mercenaries_thugs for hire_ or front-men and their guns and drugs that together make up the largest exports of Somaliland products into Khatumo State, We will first examine how small business owners in Lasanod fare against their counterparts in the hunt for international development business grants. Shall we… Let’s go !
I was reading this article about an initiative called Somaliland Business Fund which according to the funding guidelines is designed to stimulate the private sector economy in the region. Funded by the World Band and Danish Development Agency, this project is managed by a UK based consultancy firm called Landell Mills. “Waxaanu bixinaynaa deeqo u dhexeeya $5000 ilaa $150,000 mashaariicda maalgalinaysa hanti maguurto ah ama wanaajinaysa habka ganacsiga ama labadaba”. claims the translation of this document.
While local businesses from the cities of Hargaisa, Burco, Berbera and Borama are expected to apply for these business grants, small and medium sized businesses in Lasanod are expected to lose out even though they are allegedly under the Somaliland administration; thanks to Hargaisa Administration’s business licensing body that calls for “Experience” as one of the criteria upon which these grants will be distributed. _For example, the length of time a horticultural seller owns a license translates into business experience and because Bura’o, Hargeisa, Gabiley or Boorame districts have been under Somaliland administration for more than 10 years before Las anod was captured by Somaliland forces, they are expected to amass the lion’s share of the funds. Despite being the trading centre of Khatumo’s Horticultural business, boasting large volumes of livestock exports, lasanod is poised to lose out. No Business in Sool region is expected to see a dime of this funding as the so called “experience” factor clearly favours cities such as Burco Hargaisa Borama or Gabiley, over and above Lasanod simply because it was not occupied long enough.
Let’s get high a bit and for a moment look at a different kind of a business; From our neighbors in theNorth, the city of Lasanod imports about 3 lorries of the stimulant drug Khat every day. With each lorry containing 280 mini-bundles that make up 70 full bundles, neatly filling in about 40 sacks; that is a monthly consumption of 25,200 bundles or 302,400 bundles a year. At 40,000 Sh/som. or 2 dollars a bundle, Lasanod natives jew up $ 604,800.00 (USD) worth of Khat annually. Quite a lot of cash that is permanently spit out of this city’s economy, never to be exchanged for any other goods _Until the following year when the same amount of money makes its way out to the North again. Interestingly, recent reports from Lasanod indicate that for the first time khat prices have depreciated significantly thus, resulting in more people to afford. Some business analysts attribute this reduction in price to stiff competition by the thugs who broker this business while some _as conspiratorial as they may seem_would logically see this as a deliberate subsidy to drug more of the natives of Lasanod.
Moreover, into the ideology spectrum and the fervor of the so called Somaliland electioneering, a political party paradoxically dubbed “Xaqsoor” was recently exported to lasanod showcasing a large entourage of land-cruiser Suv’s. The deputy party leader who hails from Khatumo region pronounced to a handful of hand picked cheering crowd: “let’s get our rightful piece of the Hargaisa pie” _perhaps a piece of pie that only the speaker seemed to know and benefit. Sadly some in the crowd appeared to naively believe the existence of such a pie. Remember Hapless Keyse_ the so called leader of Hargaisa’s comical _now defunct _SSC political party, and how after two years he is still in the amnesia of “bringing projects” to Widh-Widh area or Fuad Adan Ade’s admission to a Xargaga Online interview in which he said “Over the past 4 years, Sland has not carried out one single project in lasanod”. The fact remains that Lasanod’s residents suffer from  obliterated and shattered hospital infrastructure; broken beds, no birthing wards and even TB patients rely on food rations from family members. Little NGO money trickles down to this hospital. Thanks in part to the fat cat administrators in Hargaisa who controlMerci USA’s donations destined specifically to Lasanod Hospital.
Furthermore, let’s examine Haglo-tosiye’s latest “projects” and see if there is any business incentives for Khatumo folks in Cayn region. Starting with his recent trip to Hargaisa. Would Haglo’s import business include medical equipments for the hospital he built as an independent Darwiish ? Would he participate and help lead Buhodle Airport construction projects ? or would he accept handouts from his masters who are trigger happy to empower him with a new SNM Militia post designed to create instability in the Cayn region? Haglo-Tosiye clearly seems to have been drinking Somaliland’s Koolaid as he has just been_ as of three minutes ago into this article_ named Somaliland’s Minister of Rahabilitation; ouch!!! Would he make any attempts to return to his native Buhoodle! only this time as the newest thug in charge of exporting secessionist ideology to historical Kalshaale and Maygaagle.Only time will tell. However, if you bet on the latter developments of Haglo, here is why you might just be right:
See…In January of 2012, at the Sool Sanaag and Cayn Grand Congress in Taleex, Haglo-tosiye narrated an inspirational story; A story about how he hired and paid Medical Doctors from India but could not get them to come to Buhodle due to deliberate bureaucratic obstructions by both PLand and Sland. His attempts to use Somaliland as a trustee for importing these MD’s from India were thwarted by Hargaisa’s propaganda and scare tactics, thus leading the Indian government’s embassy officials to deny Visas to their MD’s who would otherwise be willing to work in the SSC region’s Buhodle Hospital.  As a result, due to lack of Medical expertise and supports, many Buhodle patients would later be transported to Galkao for advanced medical treatments while many more would never make the long trek to Pland as they lost their lives helplessly in Cayn region. According to modern Natural Justice terms, this act actually qualifies to be no less than a mass murder by causation.
Additionally, as the Kalshaale and Sooljoogto Military stand-offs seem to cool off, A different kind of mass murder evidence was recently uncovered at the water reservoirs of Shangalle and Sool-jogto in Khatumo region. This time not by lack of access to badly needed medical treatments but by bullets of a bully. Will Khatumo folks continue to be divided, hired to kill each other, or be at a quagmire in the interest of a secessionist ideology that is the anti-thesis of the SSC Darwiish DNA? Will khatumo folks continue to be traditionally the loyal clientele that Somaliland companies are so used to; haplessly adding value to Businesses that are clearly favored and openly funded by development dollars? Or is there an alternative !
Will Khatumo folks in Lasanod continue munching in mouth-fulls of Khat, believing that someday somehow they will jew their way out of the current economic and political paralysis over-shadowing their once proud City? Despite Lasanod community’s daily struggles for basic necessities, The Hargaisa administration is adamant to favour perceptions of a military occupation of a piece of colonially charted land over and above the humans that rightfully inhabited it for centuries. From designing unequal business funding distributions, unfair trade balances to willful blindness of crumbling hospitals, the SNM militia will continue to push and fund its ideology in Lasanod through dollars raised from Lasanod. The three stooges/thugs of Ina-Jeni-yareina-Cambashe and Ina-Habsade who are currently in the business of terror-control in lasanod seem to be all illiterate and oblivious to the malice of the Somaliland’s newest mantra_I will provide you with my bombs and bazookas but never my businesses.
However, whether or not Hagla-tosiye joins the above thugs, one thing is clear: While Khatumo’s new generation of business entrepreneurs and social service administrators organize and gain steam, the boys of kalshaale’s federal fever remains too hot for any cold secessionist ideology.
God Bless Khatumo State of Somalia

Buhodle: The small city that defeated SNMland

It is slowly becoming clearer that the SNM militia which occupied parts of Sool-Jogto, Maygaagle, and Kalshaale have now vacated their military posts and returned to Qorulugud and retreated into Somaliland areas. As we watch prisoner swaps and other related events, one of the questions that comes to mind is whether or not this could be a game changer in the recent khatumo and Somaliland confrontations?
In light of the recent overtures by secessionist Somaliland to former SSC leader, Mr. Saleban Hagla-tosiye, Is it possible that the SSC leadership unilaterally brokered peace in the Cayn _Khatumo State region or are there other true heroes that forced Somaliland militia to retreat in defeat as they have never listened in the past to the barrage of peaceful calls to withdraw. The latter seems to be more plausible.  But wait a minute, First, let’s examine the SSC Conundrum.
Wasn’t SSC labelled by the Somaliland administration as a terrorist organization? When did Somaliland formally recognize the SSC as a legitimate leadership with whom to converse? I haven’t read or seen it, Have you? and if so whatever becomes of the faith of the other (comically dubbed SSC but legitimately recognized by Somaliland) organization allegedly led by the Hapless Keyse. Thanks in part to Somaliland’s flip flop and confused ethnocentric agenda, this other Khatumo dropout might as well  be so jealous now that his legitimate SSC organization has been eclipsed by the former terrorist, current peacemaker SSC one man show. Quite a bizzaro world where right is wrong and wrong is right ! This apparent paradox is not only entertaining but neatly fits as good material for the comic sections of Khatumo media.
Furthermore, If you look at Somaliland’s propaganda these days, one may see that their media spins these events as though the people of buhodle chose peace and preferred dialogue_ a benign concept but in this context, a code word that suggests buhodle city [as represented by a single former SSC leader] will join Somaliland’s geographic dreamland. The fact is that the people of Cayn and Khatumo currently led by president Indho-sheel are peace-loving and have never been on the offensive to grab someone else’s land. Rather, they were always on the receiving end of enemy fire. The atrocities perpetrated by the secessionist Somaliland militia, killing over 500 Khatumo citizens this year alone in the Cayn region will never be forgotten. The SNM tanks roaring in early morning, firing indiscriminately at innocent civilians. The sight of a buhodle mom throwing droplets of water from a yellow can as she attempts to put out fire in her burning house are fresh in many a Khatumo citizen. It would be interesting to know if Hagla-tosiye remembered to negotiate any compensation or reparations for these horrific human rights violations or did he choose to shake the bloody hands of Silaanyo who ordered these crimes _for a personal vendetta against Khatumo !
Born in the historic city of Taleh on Jan. 12, 2012. This blessed concept and regional autonomy of Khatumo State of Somalia has democratically and permanently united the hearts and minds of all things Sool Sanaag and Cayn. Why does hagla-tosiye shy away from mentioning in his appeasement speeches the fact that buhodle is, has and will always sport the honorable blue flag with the white star as per the wishes of its Khatumo residents? Thanks to the boys and girls of Kalshaale whose character and heroism were always in full display, requiring no permission as they thwarted all enemy attempts to capture the last remaining bastion of Khatumo land.
Meanwhile, in the coming days, as Haglo-tosiye returns from his trip to Hargaisa, local clan politicking is expected to hit the streets of buhodle city. His previous nuances of belittling SSC members who hailed from regions other than Cayn was quite divisive and hard to swallow specially when it was suggested that some of these young boys might have died in vain. However, History will soon tell if he succeeds in helping to divide the Dhulbahante people along sub-clans and city regional lines, making enemy dreams come true. Or whether Buhodle residents would be expectedly smart enough to recognize Somaliland’s dream of experimenting manipulative diplomacy after their utter failure to succeed in warfare. if the current peace overtures hold true, it’s possible that various characters may compete for getting credit to have brokered this elusive and untested peace deal. However, if it doesn’t, then we are back to square one. Far from a one man publicity stunt, this SNM retreat is clearly a direct result of the people of buhodle city and their relentless conviction to defend their land from an SNM bully that awaits by the boreholes of balli-dhiig. But one thing is for sure; the boys of Kalshaale will continue to sing poetically: “We are here, we were here, and we will be here to defend our land, dignity and history including the Dervish legacy upon which the modern Somali Federal State was founded”.
Additionally, please accept my apologies if I offended some of my Somali Northern friends who may be allergic to the mere mention of this historic Somali Dervish Movement;  a couple of pages of reading into traditional Somali history and one will easily find who were the true Somalis and who were the British Colonial followers. Finally, a good case in point could be at display at this summer’s London Olympic games.  If you looked at the choices made by athletes of Somali origin with respect to their allegiance to their birth countries, one might have seen Mo-Farah’s Gold medal in the 10k run and he is to be congratulated for an excellent run. However, although he was Born in Mogadishu but hails from the Somaliland region, Mo [notice effect of name change to the preference of colonial masters] chose to run for Great Britain as opposed to Somalia. He was also seen sporting a secessionist flag that had more colours than wiil-waal had witticism. In contrast though, over a decade ago, another athlete chose to run for his native Somalia despite huge enticements from USA. Abdi Bile Abdi went on to win Somalia’s first Gold medal in any sports in 1997 World Track and field championships in Rome. It is no coincidence that in a recent london tv interview, Abdi Bile who hails from Khatumo State was wrapped around the blue flag, tears coming down his eyes as he was carried over by emotions of patriotism and love of his country_Somalia.
May God bless Khatumo State of Somalia. Let’s hope that a United Somalia is on the horizon.
